No it’s not the fecking release date
. It’s just the next date for the Irish BI SIG to meet.
This time round the focus will be on OBIEE and in particular on OBIEE 11G.
Matt Harte from Peak Indicators will give a presentation on OBIEE best practice.
Chris Hathaway from Oracle will give a presentation on the new features of OBIEE 11G.
I’ve finally managed to download and install ODI 11G but so far have had no time to play around with it. If I get around to do this I will give a brief demo on ODI 11G.
See you out at East Point

Thank god Craig Stewart is coming over to Dublin next week. I missed his presentation at the Rittman Mead BI Forum in Brighton last week as I had to fly out early on Friday morning after an epic pub crawl the night before (anyone remembers where those Jägerbombs came from???). Anyway, I learned a lot over at Brighton and one of the things is that I am getting old…
Over at the forum Craig promised me to have version 2 of his ODI 11G presentation ready for us on 1 June. Other highlights of the day will include real-time data warehousing with Oracle GoldenGate presented by Gary Chape and SOA data integration with ODI presented by Ian Milne. For details and to download the presentations have a look at the agenda.

Don’t miss Mark Rittman’s presentations on Essbase and OBIEE integration and a technical introduction to Hyperion Planning. There is still time to register. As usual the event will take place at the Oracle offices in Dublin. Paul Weston from Ireland’s leading Essbase consultancy BDMS will give an overview on new features in Essbase 11.
Personally I have no experience with Essbase myself. I am still not convinced that there is an awful lot you can do with OLAP that you can’t do with analytic functions and all the other new and exciting features for analysis in the Oracle core database. So I am looking forward to learn something new here.
For a full schedule of the day’s events have a look at the UK OUG website.

There has been very little activity on the blog recently as I’ve been busy working on an ODI data integration project. The good thing though is that I have collected a lot of blog material.
Watch out amongst others for a post on the wobbly relationship between ODI and analytic functions in the not so distant future.
Anyway, as part of the Irish BI OUG SIG we will be running a full day event on OBIEE and OBI Apps on 17 September at the Oracle offices in Dublin. Adam Bloom from Oracle will give overview presentations on both apps. Each of these will be followed up with case studies by Una Madigan from APC by Schneider Electric. Those guys implemented OBIEE way back when it was still Siebel Analytics. I saw Una present recently at the OUG Ireland. One of the best presentations I have seen on the subject and a textbook implementation of OBIEE. Both technologists and business folks will be able to take away some lessons learnt here.
As always there will be ample opportunity for networking. The lunch alone is worthwhile going… And maybe we can squeeze in a quick pint after the event.
What are you waiting for? Go on and register.
